QUAMPI, Quandamooka Arts and Culture Centre

Project overview

The Quandamooka Arts and Culture Centre – known as QUAMPI, will include exhibition, event and performing spaces, as well as a cafe and gift shop.

At the centre, the Quandamooka People will practise and share their culture, heritage and art with visitors from all over the world.

Ancient Quandamooka artefacts will be showcased alongside contemporary art from Quandamooka and other Australian First Nations artists as well as invited International First Nations artists.

QUAMPI will deliver new cultural tourism product, including Indigenous food tours and dining experiences, Indigenous art markets, Indigenous art tours and art-making workshops. It will become the home of the Quandamooka Festival.

QUAMPI is a priority action in Gudjundabu Marumba: Tourism for a Glad Tomorrow, a five-year strategy for sustainable tourism on Quandamooka Country (PDF). The strategy was launched by the Quandamooka Yoolooburrabee Aboriginal Corporation (QYAC) in December 2018.

Project delivery

The Queensland Government is currently working with key stakeholders, including QYAC and Sibelco Australia, to remediate parcels of land, such as Deanbilla Bay in Gumpi (Dunwich), that have been impacted from decades of mining activity.

The Queensland Government’s Department of Energy and Public Works is managing the design, procurement and construction of QUAMPI on behalf of QYAC. QUAMPI's  construction commenced in December 2022  and is on track for practical completion in mid-2024.

Cox Architecture has been appointed as the principal consultant.
